How to choose the correct masking tape

For the manufacturer of masking tape, it is very important to choose the appropriate masking paper according to the masking tape produced. Mainly concerned about the following aspects:

(1) Dry and wet tension: The dry tension is to ensure that the tape is not pulled off during unwinding, rewinding, slitting and use; the wet tension is to ensure continuous paper during the coating process. The dry and wet tensile forces are separately detected in the longitudinal and transverse directions. Because the paper aspect ratios of different manufacturers are quite different, the aspect ratio we contact can reach 3.2, and the smallest is 1.2. Longitudinal tension is often important, but too small lateral tension can affect use.

(2) Impermeability: When applying water-based adhesive or solvent-based adhesive, the adhesive cannot penetrate to the back. We have encountered this situation, after the coating, the glue penetrates into the coating roller, mainly because the anti-seepage treatment of the paper is not done well. The anti-seepage test can be carried out in the laboratory first, and the coating gel is dropped onto the coated surface of the coated paper to observe the penetration of the back surface.

(3) Absorption of the glue: It is necessary to ensure that a certain thickness of the glue layer can be applied on the paper surface. Some papers have poor absorption of the glue due to excessive or improper anti-seepage treatment or waterproof treatment. When the scraper or scraper is passed, the glue is easily taken away and cannot reach a certain amount of glue.

(4) Temperature resistance: For temperature resistant tape, the temperature resistance of the base paper is also very important. Many high-quality papers are subject to high temperature conditions, and the paper is liable to become brittle and hard. It is easy to stretch or curl during use, which affects its use. Textured paper has different temperature resistance grades, the temperature resistance of normal temperature type is below 80 °C; the temperature resistance of medium temperature type is 80 °C-120 °C; the temperature resistance of high temperature type is 120 °C-180 °C. To select the appropriate temperature rating according to the purpose of the tape and the conditions of use, the temperature test can be done first in the laboratory.

(5) Binding force with glue: Some masking paper has poor bonding force with coating glue. After coating into a roll, the adhesive layer is easy to transfer, or the adhesive is easily released from the paper surface when used. First evaluated by small-scale experiments.
